BETTERHELP
PIECE YOURSELF TOGETHER
Adoptees feel stuck between two worlds, their adopted world and their birth world. BetterHelp knows the adoptee identity feels fractured and wants to help adoptees accept all their parts.
ADOPTEE TOOLKIT
Adoptees who sign up with Better Help receive access to the adoptee toolkit, our online resource website. Adoptees may struggle to navigate the world but they don’t have to do it alone.
LET’S GET RELATABLE
We understand that discussing adoption can be really hard, especially if your therapist is new to adoptee issues. We want to create a safe and supportive environment for adoptees by providing adoption-competent therapists.
FIND YOUR PEOPLE
One of the biggest issues adoptees face is the feeling of isolation. Sharing physical space with other adoptees is hard, so we are creating a virtual one. Through the Geneva Chat app, adoptees can message other adoptees, set up meetings, and have group video calls with folks that understand what they’re going through.
MICROPEDIA ADDITIONS
Adoptees experience microaggressions all the time. However, since the adoptee identity is rarely discussed, adoptees are left out of the conversation.
We submitted examples of microaggressions to the Micropedia project, which is the first online encyclopedia of microaggressions. We hope this spreads awareness on how to treat adoptees, as well as validate adoptees when they experience microaggressions.
LET US CARRY YOUR BAGGAGE
They say if you don’t laugh you’ll cry. We encourage both. Better Help is releasing tote bags that sarcastically describe the adoptee experience. Every time adoptees sign up for BetterHelp, they receive a free tote as a reminder that BetterHelp is there to carry some of the emotional load.
